18.10.2018 / New product for cats and dogs

Gutguide has developed a new oral health-promoting product for cats and dogs. The principal of operation is similar to our Toothguide products. Specific lactic acid bacteria replace gingivitis -causing bad bacteria in the mouth. Petguide -lactic acid bacteria powder is odourless and tasteless and even cats approve of it. In the mouth the powder forms a gel-like structure, which helps the bacteria stay in the mouth.

The product was studied on cats (9) and dogs (8), which used the product for 4-5 weeks scattered on top of food. The use of Petguide significantly decreased the number of gingivitis -causing bacteria.

Now is a good time to start immuno therapy and microbial treatment for next spring´s pollen season.

Immunohoney -organic honey for pollen immunotherapy is a food supplement and it is used for sensitization of birch,willow, mugwort and alder. This honey is made by bees in specialized nests from where the pollen and microbes are collected into honey in controllable quantitites. The diverse plant microbiota supports the immune system and desensitization through the gut.

IMMUNOhoney -microbe-rich organic honey is a dietary supplement and is meant to diversify the undiverse microbiota of the gut. Microbially active, unprocessed organic honey contains honey collected and processed by bees. The plants contain wide selection of bacterial species lacking from an urban environment. GutGuide®BifidoMAX is a dietary supplement in the form of a chocolate bar which contains bifidobacteria and lactobacilli for the gut´s wellbeing.

Dark chocolate contains loads of antioxidants (over 800mg/100g) and in studies dark chocolate has been shown to feed lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.

BifidoMAX contains coconut palm sugar, which has a very low glycemic index. So in other words, BifidoMAX does not induce a spike in blood sugar like many other sugars with a higher GI number.

23.08.2018 / Gutguide has been issued a patent regarding the microbiota analysis of people with celiac disease

Gutguide has been issued a patent regarding the microbiota analysis of people with celiac disease and products which can be used to improve the condition. The patent is based on a study conducted on celiac disease patients who were on a gluten free diet for a longer peroid of time. The conclusion was that the people with celiac disease had a less diverse gut microbiota and groups of beneficial bacteria were at a lower level compared to the healthy reference group. It was possible to steer the microbiota to the right direction with a bacteria+fiber product.

We are waiting for an EU-patent later this year.

22.01.2018 / Gutguide Ltd. has been granted a patent linking gut microbiota to obesity and the accumulation of visceral fat

This new patent is based on Gutguide´s research that demonstrated that the prevalence of particular species of gut microbiota in relation to the whole gut microbiota is different in obese individuals compared to individuals of normal weight.

Significant bacterial species are bifidobacteria, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Clostridia. This information can be used to calculate an Index depicting the balance of the gut microbiota.

A low Index number displays elevated risk to accumulating visceral fat.

18.05.2017 / Gutguide has been issued its first patent regarding GutIndexes

Gutguide has been issued a patent FI 126711 B regarding ”Evaluating the health risks of serotonin deficiency”. The invention is based on the observed correlation between serotonin levels and gut microbiota, especially between the balance of bifidobacteria and clostridia and their abundance in the human gut. The patent protects Gutguide´s GutIndex -analysis, which enables Gutguide to research the balance between bacterial species in the gut and observe the efficacy of different treatments on bacterial species.

The Gutguide team eagerly pursues researching the correlations between different syndromes and gut microbiota.

08.08.2016 / Study: Probiotic bacteria Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus uberis have a whitening effect on teeth

Dental whitening effect of an oral probiotic -research study concludes that Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus uberis -probiotic strains produce small amounts of hydrogen peroxide which has a whitening effect on teeth. The whitening effect was clearly visible after 3-4 weeks of usage. According to earlier studies the used strains are also able to replace bad bacteria in the mouth microbiota. Study on the effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG ja Bifidobacterium Bb12-strains on mouth health: Chewable tablet containing L. rhamnosus GG ja Bifidobacterium Bb12 -strains was demonstrated to decrease plaque formation and gingivitis in a clinical study conducted on adults.

Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria are not typical inhabitants of the mouth and can therefore colonize the mouth only temporarily. They do support the typical microbiota of the mouth and LGG is therefore included in the product. > Download study

11.03.2016 / Dissertation: Bacterial constructs of the gut have an impact on metabolic disorders

FM Eveliina Munukka demonstrated in her dissertation 11.3.2016 that the bacterial microbiota of overweight adults with a metabolic disorder differs from the bacterial microbiota of healthy, normal or overweight adults with normal metabolism. The gut of the people with the disorder had a higher number of bacteria from the Clostridium XIV –group and a smaller number of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii compared to healthy adults. The study material of Munukka was acquired with the same analytical method that GutGuide uses. Eveliina Munukka was born in 1977 and passed her matriculation examination in 1996 in Myllykoski highschool in Kouvola. She carried out her university degree (FM) in the university of Turku in 2008. The field of the dissertation is medical microbiology.

A study on the prevention of otitis media in children: A chewable tablet containing Streptococcus salivarius K12 -bacteria was demonstrated to prevent acute otitis media in children. Mouth, nose, pharynx and ear are part of the same microbiological area with its particular microbiota and lactic acid bacteria capable of colonizing the mucous membrane. The most abundant species in a healthy mouth is S. salivarius. Antibiotics effectively wipe out these beneficial bacteria as well as bad bacteria. > Download study

Most recent study on the effects of S. salivarius M18 on the oral health of adults: Chewable tablets containing S. salivarius M18 lactic acid bacteria were demonstrated to significantly decrease the activity of S. mutans, gingivitis, bleeding of gums and even the depth of periodontal pockets. 1 tablet was taken once a day for a month.
