GutGuide Ltd. has been granted a patent linking gut microbiota to obesity and the accumulation of visceral fat

This new patent is based on GutGuide´s research that demonstrated that the prevalence of particular species of gut microbiota in relation to the whole gut microbiota is different in obese individuals compared to individuals of normal weight.

Significant bacterial species are bifidobacteria, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Clostridia. This information can be used to calculate an Index depicting the balance of the gut microbiota.

A low Index number displays elevated risk to accumulating visceral fat.
